Mandy and I left our home in Greenwich New Jersey and began a month-long trip across Canada , and back across the northern US. We stayed in Algonquin Park, Ontario, Thunder Bay Park Ontario, crossed Manitoba and Saskatchewan to Jasper National Park in Alberta down to Banff National Park in British Columbia. We entered the US at Glacier National Park, Montana then through the northern states to Theodore Roosevelt National Park in South Dakota and finally to Aldo Leopold’s Home in Wisconsin. Our journal told us a lot about the differences in rural areas of Canada and the US the latter being much poorer. Wildlife fare no better. Industrial forestry, agriculture and mining spoil much of the natural landscape in between protected areas leaving residents with dollar stores and poor paying jobs.
